Chili Crabs

I’m sure you’ve tried Chilli Crabs when you’re in Singapore or Malaysia.  Since mud crabs are available in season now, I thought I cooked up the famous chilli mud crabs. You can use Blue Swimmer Crabs too. It is so easy to make except the tedious task of  cutting up the crabs.  Here’s the recipe after the jump:

Chili Mud Crabs

Ingredient ” A” – mix the ingredient
1 mud crabs (approximately 1 kg) – cut crabs up
1 tsp chopped garlic
1 tsp chopped ginger
1 tbsp ground bean paste

Ingredient “B” – mix the chili ingredient
1 tbsp hot chili sauce
1 tbsp tomato sauce
1 tbsp plum sauce
1 1/2 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt

In a frying pan, add 2 tbsp of oil. Add Ingredient “A” and fry for one minute and add in crabs. Stir for one minute and add a cup of water. Cover the crabs and cook in medium heat for 10 minutes. Open the lid and add Ingredients “B”, cook for another minute. Next, add in corn starch (1 tbsp and 2 tbsp water) to thicken the sauce. Viola and garnish with spring onions (green onions).

Serving is for 2 pax.

My favourite dish. Never cooked this before because too much effort to kill the crab.
